DIY: chicken wire frame

Fall is full of festivals, craft events, and parades.
Which means, busy time for Embellish Boutique.

So to get a head start, I began researching craft booth ideas on my dearly beloved, Pinterest.
Since we sale a variety of handcrafted jewelry, I was interested in finding a unique piece to display our items.

Then, I find these.

{found here}

And of course, I think "I can SO do that!"
If I'm not mistaken, I probably think this to myself after every awesome DIY project I come across.
Pinterest is inspiring me WAY to much here lately. In fact, it's soo inspiring that I find myself spending countless hours glued to the computer. When I finally close the laptop and put it away.. I feel ironically, creative?
And I haven't done a thing.
It sounds silly, but it's so true.

Anyhoo, back to my project.
So, I crawled out of bed around 11:30 night two nights ago and found an old frame and propped it up by the backdoor.
I knew if I wouldn't go find it right then and there, I probably would forget by morning.

There it was laying by the door when I went to leave that morning.
I carried it on the back porch & put a quick layer of flat white spray paint on it so that it would be ready to go by the time I got home.

Unfortunately, I don't have any before pictures.
But, here's the turn out.
Not too terribly shabby for a first go, eh?

Supplies needed:
unused frame, 8 x 10
chicken wire - approximately 12x12
wire snippers
staple gun
spray paint of choice

1) Spray paint the frame your color of choice & allow ample drying time.

2) Place frame over chicken wire & snip outline.

3) Flip frame over, place chicken wire on top, & staple along the border.

4) Snip the excess chicken wire.

Viola!
Simple as pie!

To add a twist, you can even spray paint the chicken wire a fancy color too!

Use these for jewelry displays, inspiration boards, to hang childrens artwork, or a fun weekly menu/recipe board.

Next craft show is in October. Until then, it's found a new home on my nightstand.

Definitely going to make more for my craft room & storefront.
I'm loving these colors!

projects.

Back in the day, I should've been diagnosed with A.D.D.
I can not keep my mind focused on one thing for any specfic amount of time.
It goes to show with my list of projects I have scattered about the house.

Take this for example.

Project #1:
This is a hutch that goes to a desk we bought from the Auction to use at the local Christmas parades in our booth last year. Now that we have a storefront, we use the desk portion, but not the hutch.
Whenever we finally decide to paint and finish up the remainder of the house, this will go in my craft room.
Lowes had a gallon of bright yellow paint for $10 when I dropped in last week.
I had to buy it.

Thursday night I painted one coat.
Today, it is still sitting on my back porch...with one coat...newspaper flying around underneath...unfinished.

Project #2

My grandpa gave me this old window a few months back. I used it as a peice of rustic decor at our wedding and now plan to use it in our bedroom.
I want to refinish it, nail up a shelf, & prop this baby up on it above our headboard.

Project #3

After I get my window up & situated, I want to add this little wooden "Y" wrapped with twine in one of the bottom corners.

This project = DONE

Project #4

I posted a tutorial link here & here a few weeks ago regarding the YoYo Florettes.
Well, I found this cut & stitch fabric at a local craft store and in my spare time I've been hand stitching these lovelies!

86 total.
I've got 84 to go.

Available on my etsy site, here.

Project #5

Resin Applied Floral Jewelry

For the past two weeks, this has been my steady project.
I am attempting to create numerous earrings, necklaces, and ring sets to showcase in my store.
These are my new obsession.
Beautiful vintage-inspired style & perfect addition to any outfit.

Available in my etsy site, here.

Can you tell my brain is scattered?
[ha]
I'm easily inspired & quick to hop on board the next crafting adventure before my previous creation is complete.
These are just a handful of my spontaneous crafts lying around our home at this time.

Crazy, crazy girl.

small renovations making a big difference.

Our master bathroom/laundry room was the first room actually quoted 'complete' in our new home.
We gutted the floors and replaced with laminate sticky tile ( --> cheaper), painted the walls Thyme, & installed a new cabinet above the washer/dryer.

The three [big] things that are remaining to do are to remove & replace the cracked shower (that thankfully doesn't leak), purchase a new and up to date hot water heater, & finish painting/tiling behind and around the new heater.

It's a complete eye sore.

The towels don't match.
They all fall to the right, left, behind the heater, and on the floor.

the leftover painting/remodeling supplies have found a permanent home in the corner.

bella decided to be destructive one day while home alone..

With all of our leftover Bed, Bath, & Beyond giftcards, we purchased a small shelf kit.

Luckily, it was just the right length & width to fit into our tiny hole in the wall.

I re-organized our towel collection and threw out all of the non-coordinating colors.

Added a few wine bottles & an antique-finished easel.

Folded all of the washcloths & stacked them neatly into a wicker basket.

so far, I'm pleased with the results.

This coming up weekend's project --> paint those hidden white walls!

redneck wine glasses?

at our couples shower back in may, i mentioned that we received mason jar wine glasses.

i was thrilled.

i know, some of you may be thinking...what? you're kidding right?

how r-e-d-n-e-c-k can one posisbly get?

don't judge.

a friend's mom handmade these for us.

we were going to actually use them as toasting flutes at the wedding.

after all, it did fit the theme to a T.

somehow or another, our wedding planner "lost" them the day of..

[haaahahaha]
twas but a joke.

if you are feeling crafty, you can handmake these yourself. it's pretty simple.

all you need is a set of clear glass candlestick holders, a set of two mason jars (either pint or quart sized- pint sized is shown in pictures), e6000 glue & a little bit of twine.

Glue the candlestick holders to the bottom of the mason jar, tie the lid on with some twine and waa-la!

You now have yourself a pair of redneck mason jars.

If you aren't feeling too crafty, check out etsy instead. they have a ton of these listed here.

                                                                 {this set is only $8}

Now go fill it up with your favorite toddy, sweet tea, or lemonade and have yourself a drank!

4th of july party decor & dessert ideas

the 4th of july is one of my favorite holiday's!

growing up, we always booked a week vacation in daytona beach, florida.

the last few years have been so hectic during the summertimes with school, cody playing ball, work, and now graduation & the wedding, we just haven't made the time to go back down there.

this year, we have no plans.

it's pretty much still up in the air at this point.

take out the boat and jetski to the island?
hit up the beach at tybee?
hang out at home by the pool?

more than likely, we will be doing the latter of the three.

therefore, i want to come up with some cute decor ideas to make it feel like we are at least celebrating something!

i stole most of these from the martha stewart website. i just love her!

and these desserts look tasty and SUPER cute!

auction night ♥

Tonight is our weekly auction in town.

I used to honestly think my Grandpa was a crazy hoarder..
he went to the auction every week...
bought weedeater upon weedeater, nails, nails, and guess what? more nails...
junk, junk, and more flat.out.junk.

However, I didn't realize it was such a big deal until I had the pleasure of going about two years ago.

It's not a big deal..it's an addiction.

Seriously.

The saying goes "one man's junk is another man's treasure".

I bought this desk for a whopping $7.50 over the summer.
I don't have an up-to-date picture of the finished project.
I sanded it down & stained  it with a dark walnut.
I use it for a craft/study desk now.

These were last weeks buys. ($4 for the entire box)
I spray painted a few of these bad boys white..

{before}

{after}

and touched up the others, then added some vinyl!

{available for purchase on our website}

The week before, I brought home this wooden tray ($2)..
I didn't have a clue what I was going to use it for at first, but I think it found a nice little home on my kitchen counter.

I have a ton of pictures to take of more of my "auction" items that I've collected over the past year!

I'll be uploading my deals up as I photograph them :)

Tonight, imagine this...

the auctioneer himself..
and here's little ole' me...throwing up my number every few minutes..

well, minus the boobage that is.
I wasn't that blessed in that category.

Alright now, I'm gone bidding!

Cheers ♥
